5 Powerful Quotes That Will Help You Embrace Change

“The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings.” —Kakuzō Okakura, The Book of Tea

I don’t know about you but my life has been changing like crazy lately. From moving into my new apartment to preparing for my upcoming wedding, these past couple months have brought a whirlwind of change. With all of these changes happening in my life, I had to stop and think how often we see changes in our lives. Whether it is starting a new role with your company, gaining a new co-worker, or starting a new career, change happens to everyone on a daily basis.

This change doesn’t always give us the warm fuzzies. Often times we tend to resist these changes because they make us uncomfortable. Most people don’t like things they can’t control, but change is inevitable, so how can we embrace it? I recently came across some quotes about change and thought they could be a good outline of how we can embrace change.

“A year from now you will wish you had started today.” —Karen Lamb

This one is crazy to think about. One little change can redirect your path completely. Is there something in your life that you wish you could do, but are scared of the outcome? Why not try it out? Life is too short to be afraid of change so embrace the change and chase your dream.

“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got.” —Henry Ford

Just think about where we would be as a society if everyone was complacent with where he or she was in life. We wouldn’t be blessed with the incredible technology that we have today. For example, automobiles had been invented but they took forever to make one, so Henry Ford wanted to change up how things were done and BOOM the assembly line was created. He saw that there was a better way to do something and made a change. Is there something in your life that you wish was different? If there is, find a way to mix it up!

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” —Victor Frankl

Sometimes we do try to change. We try and try and nothing actually changes. At that point, it might be time for a gut check. Look to change yourself instead of the situation. The most difficult change we face is the change we need to make within ourselves. It is no fun realizing that we were wrong about something, but these changes are a necessity in order to grow.

“I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better.” —Georg C. Lichtenberg

There are so many things that I could say about this quote. At first, this quote can be a little confusing. As beneficial and inevitable as change is it is not always good. We don’t know what life will throw at us. Sometimes there are weeks where we can’t win and we have a negative attitude about it. So what are we going to do about it? What is one thing that you can do to create change in your life?

This week I challenge you to go out and “Be the change you wish to see in the world,” as Gandhi would say. Smile at someone you pass by in the hallway at work or speak life into those around you by encouraging others or take an extra moment to really listen to what your boss or co-worker is saying.

What are some ways that you can make changes in your life?
