“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that! ”
This, my friends, is a quote from my one of my absolute favorite movies, Rocky Balboa. Rocky has a point, doesn’t he? I realize I’m a bit on the strange side, but do you ever find yourself imagining you’re Rocky when you’re trying to push through that tough workout? I do. I tell myself, “No Pain! No Pain!” and somehow I feel a brief, albeit minor, sense of relief; I feel like I can keep on going, and I always do.
All of us have busy lives. We work all day, go home to the family, get the kids to practice, run errands, work out, etc., only to get up and do the same thing again the next day. That’s why it’s so important to be in a job that rewards you. And by rewards, I don’t mean only financially speaking. A job that rewards you by making you feel like what you’re doing is meaningful in some way. A job you feel matches your strengths and your passions, with a company that does the same.
My days at work are not all sunshine and rainbows. In fact, there are many days it’s cloudy with a chance of meatballs! However, I truly love what I do! I love knowing that because of the relationships I’ve built, I might be able to help someone in an extremely positive way one day. I’ve been hit hard in life, many, many times. But like my dear old friend Rocky (yes, I believe he’s a real person) says, “It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.” Keep moving forward friends!
