The definition of collaboration is “the action of working with someone to produce or create something”. When you collaborate with others your goal is to have a successful result, but hopefully you gain something else. Here are few takeaways you can gain from collaborating with others:
When you sit down and listen to other ideas it should make you better. Use this time to learn from others. No two people are alike and everyone has different perspectives. Listen and learn. Also, depending on the group of people with varying ideas there is a need to communicate and it will help hone your skills. When you work in a group of passionate people it is easy to interrupt and not listen. If you don’t listen and are only concerned about your own ideas you will be missing out on a wealth of information. Maybe you aren’t confident in your ideas, but by opening up it helps build up your own confidence.
When you open up your mind and hear others it can make you think about things in a different way. Individuals have a limited vision. People have a great creative potential. Your imagination can unlock many things but most people fail to acknowledge this. By sharing it can open up your mind to greater things. Creativity happens from the synergy and energy of sharing.
When peers sit down together and work toward a common goal, it builds respect and value for others. Collaboration promotes connection and the ability to see others through different circumstances. It can open our eyes to help appreciate people more and understand their point of view. When working together toward a common goal, it strengthens the trust we have for one another. When we have great relationships with our co-workers we can focus on opportunities and not dwell on negative interactions.
Collaboration is the key to many things, but if you are open you personally can take away so much more.
