As a professional on the market in this new “normal” we have found ourselves in, interviews are now becoming virtual! So, if you are like many others on the market, are you asking yourself “How do I prepare for a virtual interview?” Lights, Camera, Action is what I like to think about and advise my talented people!
You want to be in a space that has great lighting and not a lot of distractions. I always recommend being in a tidy space with a solid background. We want the focus to be on YOU, not your family photos! It is always best to get your devices set up and working properly prior to the start of your interview so you can fix any issues prior. You want great quality video and sound.
Dress professionally; it is important because the first judgment an interviewer makes is going to be based on how you look and what you are wearing and it shows that you are serious about the position.
Lastly, act! Come to your virtual interview prepared and have a great understanding of the job description, requirements, and desired and preferred skills. Spend some time researching the company and familiarize yourself with their history and their mission. Ask questions about upcoming projects, company culture, and tell them what you could bring to the team! Be sure to make eye contact and be engaged like you would in a face-to-face interview.
Virtual Interviews are here to stay and being prepared for them will help you put your best foot forward. I hope these ideas will help you in the future! Smile and be camera ready! Lights, Camera, Action!
