You Are the Author of Your Life: What Story Will You Write in 2022?

Going into the new year can feel like a bit much. Maybe you have a very long list of things you want to do, goals you want to accomplish, places you want to visit, etc. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you have such a long list of ambitions. Here are some tips that I have found helpful when navigating through this time of the year.

Narrowing down your goals and focusing on one at a time is a great way to get the job done. When you have so much going on at once, it’s easy for your brain to become overstimulated and therefore, you get less productive. Honing in on one goal at a time enables you to think more clearly and dedicates more time to a specific goal. Once accomplished, keep chugging along to the next one!

In pursuit of your aspirations, it can be a little scary getting started. Maybe you’re concerned with what others will think or are scared of failure. Failure is one of life’s greatest lessons—it teaches you what not to do next time or perhaps what you could do better. Failure is how we grow, and that’s why I say do not be afraid to fail forward. It’s totally normal to be afraid to make a move, or to be worried about what others may think! Just know that success + growth come from putting yourself outside of your comfort zone.

Learn to say “no” to the people who do not encourage you to go after your goals, unimportant events that you may feel obligated to attend, or things that don’t align with your goals. Learn to say “no” to your phone and its endless notifications—put it on do not disturb and get stuff done. And lastly, learn to say “no” to yourself when you want to quit, give up, or abandon your goals. KEEP GOING!

Set aside time each day to take care of your mind, body, and spirit. We all need a little self-care! Whether that’s reading ten pages of your favorite book every day, listening to a podcast while folding laundry, or just setting aside time every morning to be still and collect your thoughts. You need to tap into the things that you love to keep your creative, spunky spirit alive! This will make you feel empowered moving forward.

It’s essential to welcome change if you want to grow. So, with that, I hope you are setting “Big Hairy Audacious Goals” as we say here at the Aureus Group, and have a plan to achieve them. Remember that the grass is greener where you water it, so be sure to take care of yourself and worry about your own goals, not others’. Consistency is key—stick with your goals and don’t give up!
