Companies Employ Many Strategies to Develop Leaders
Midlands Business Journal December 14, 2018
A decade ago employers could post a position on any job board and receive a flood of qualified candidates, but due to the Midwest’s extremely low unemployment rate, that isn’t happening in the current market. A common strategy for finding emerging leaders is aligning the candidate’s values, innate talent, and competency with leadership roles, according to Chris Carlson-Dennell, managing director of Aureus Group, an affiliate of C&A Industries. “Managers and leaders are typically promoted based on skills, experience, and education, but they succeed or fail based on their talents and culture fir,” she said. “I believe leaders need to know when to manage and when to lead. Our workforce is quite diverse, and understanding the innate talents of each employee and their career aspirations is key to helping the company and the employee achieve their goals.” “People are working longer, and tapping into this experienced talent pool in order to help develop your current workforce is a smart succession and retention plan,” Carlson said.
